The Liverpool School of tropical medicine is an internationally renowned centre of excellence engaged in teaching, research and technical assistance on topics associated with community health and bio-medical research in developing countries.

One of our concerns is the transmission of vector borne diseases. Two major diseases are associated with solid waste management and these are Dengue fever and filariasis; both of these diseases are transmitted by mosquitoes.

We also have a group concerned with the health impact assessment of development projects, and therefore, projects which change the management of solid waste are of interest to us.

One of our training courses is a one year masters degree in parasitology and medical entomology. Students participating in that course are particularly interested in the association between solid waste management and vector-borne diseases.
