Coad, Adrian (ed), « Lessons from India in Solid Waste
Management »: This is a book that has been compiled from
investigations conducted by senior participants on training courses
in India, and edited by Adrian Coad. It covers a wide range of
aspects related to solid waste management in three cities in western
India, including:
- comparisons of private sector and public sector
operations
- experiences of NGOs in solid waste management
- a detailed account of vehicle maintenance practices in
Mumbai
- evaluations of waste collection systems
- a discussion of waste treatment alternatives
- methods of waste collection for slums and high-density areas,

Environment and Urbanisation, Vol 9, No 2, October 1997.
This issue of Environment and Urbanisation describes the processes of
land and housing occupation by tenants, and the strategies
implemented by NGOs and governments working with underprivileged
populations to improve their living conditions. The document includes
a number of general articles on this issue, and many concrete
examples, in particular on South Africa, Kenya, India, and Latin
America.
