SANDEC is the Department of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries at the Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science and Technology (EAWAG). Its mandate is to assist in developing appropriate and sustainable water and sanitation concepts and technologies adapted to the different physical and socio-economic conditions prevailing in developing countries.

Information and Advisory Service on Appropriate Technology
ISAT, the Information and Advisory Service on Appropriate Technology is a GATE project. GATE is a service provided by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) in the development, adaptation and dissemination of Appropriate Technology (AT).

 

Since mid-1995, The Together Foundation and UNCHS have been collecting urban solutions submitted by communities around the world. They placed the information into a searchable database, allowing end-users to search for successful cases of improving the living environment by region, country, eco-system, area of impact (solid waste, housing, greening, poverty, reduction, et. al.), partners and keywords.

ICLEI's PURPOSE AND MISSION

  • To serve as an international clearinghouse on sustainable development and environmental protection policies, programs, and techniques being implemented at the local level by local institutions.
  • To initiate joint projects or campaigns among groups of local governments to research and develop new approaches to address pressing environmental and development problems.
  • To organize training programs and publish reports and technical manuals on state of the art environmental management practices.

To serve as an advocate for local government before national and international governments, agencies and organizations to increase their understanding and support of local environmental protection and sustainable development activities.
